What Can Volunteers Do?

We highly recommend a walk around the paddocks or a quick 'chat' with your favourite horses at the paddock fence before or after your shift - it does wonders!

  • Greeting visitors and serving them - in the Visitor Centre, Reception and Shop.

  • Admin duties in the Visitor Centre office - to support the admin team.

  • Working on the Stud Farm with the animals - assisting the Stud Grooms with the everyday running of the Stud Farm.

  • General maintenance work - fence repairs, grass cutting, painting and carpentry all around the Suffolk Punch Trust site.

  • Guiding visitors around the Stud Farm - conducting the walking tours and guiding on the Tractor Trailer rides.

  • Gardening - general gardening around the site and specifically in the Heritage Garden.

Who Can Volunteer?

  • Adults
  • Children (minimum age is 14 with parental consent)
  • Businesses

All volunteers are given relevant training and the necessary resources and guidance.

You will need your own means of transport to get to and from The Suffolk Punch Trust.

We offer plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, but you will need to bring a packed lunch or purchase food from our on-site café.

When Can I Volunteer?

  • At all times of the year on the Stud Farm but mainly during the open season in the Visitor Centre.

  • Many volunteers usually commit to regular days, others half-days or just a couple of hours. Any time you can give to us is really appreciated.

Corporate Volunteering

If your workplace allows you time to volunteer, we would love you to think of us!

Previous corporate groups have refreshed the Heritage Garden, mended fences, painted shelters, dismantled playgrounds, laid new pathways...you name it, they’ve done it!

We always have a range of tasks and projects, big and small, that we like to carefully match to each group. Although we are unable to offer corporate volunteering directly with the horses, the nature of our sites means that you will never be far from our 4-legged lovelies.

Work Experience, Placements & Apprenticeships

  • We work with schools, colleges and training providers to support work experience placements and apprenticeships.

  • Our placements are available to those aged 16 and over and looking for a placement as part of their college or university’s approved scheme.
